Help Understanding VIX

Archived Under: Investing , Moneysmartz Guide Updates

The stock market feels like a roller coaster lately, so it's not surprising that the term VIX is all the rage. According to Wikipedia, the VIX is "the ticker symbol for the Chicago Board Options Exchange Volatility Index, a popular measure of the implied volatility of S&P 500 index options." The VIX is also known as the fear index and gauges the market's expectation of volatility over the next 30 days. The recently created Moneysmartz VIX page links you to the resources you need to understand the VIX and how the VIX relates to your investment portfolio and investment decisions.
